(Fargo, ND) -- A state lawmaker is promoting a bill that, if enacted, would ban North Dakota public schools from teaching critical race theory.

The measure, introduced by Republican State Representative Jim Casper, states that a public school or district "may not include instruction relating to critical race theory in any portion of the district's required curriculum."

Kasper does say that he is unaware of any North Dakota school currently teaching the controversial content, which reportedly asserts that racism is "embedded in American society."

The bill is one of several dozen expected to be sifted thru as the special session for legislators in Bismarck begins Monday.
