Grafton Apartment Fire Damages 5 Units

(Grafton, ND) -- Thirteen members of Grafton Fire Department were called out to a structure fire with heavy smoke and visible flames at 1315 Highway 81 South just after midnight Monday. Members of the Park River Fire Department were also dispatched for mutual aid. Acording to a post on the Grafton Fire Department's Facebook page, law enforcement assisted by going door to door notifying the occupants of the fire and confirmed the units were vacated and then helped set up a safe perimeter around the incident. Valley Ambulance and Walsh County EMS were able to provide medical assistance for the scene. 25 firefighters were on scene to fight the fire and complete overhaul operations for about 4 1/2 hours. A total of 5 units and 1 laundry units sustained smoke, fire and water damage. The occupants of 10 living units were assisted by Walsh County Emergency Manager and Red Cross to relocate for the night. The cause of the fire is under investigation with the assistance of the ND State Fire Marshal's Office. Other agencies on scene were Grafton Police Department, Walsh County Sheriff Department, North Dakota Highway Patrol, Valley Ambulance Rescue Service, Walsh County EMS, Montana-Dakota Utilities, Grafton Municipal Utilities and Walsh County Emergency Management.
