Fargo Votes Yes on Hate Crime Ordinance

(Fargo, ND)  --  Fargo is moving forward with a hate crimes ordinance.  Commissioners passed the ordinance last night on a three-to-two vote.  The ordinance allows residents to be charged if they commit simple assault, harassment, and criminal mischief because of a victim's race, color, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or ancestry.  The added charge would carry the city's harshest punishment of a 15-hundred-dollar fine or 30-days in jail.
