(Bismarck, ND) -- A bill meant to curb the North Dakota governor's emergency powers is headed to the House. The state Senate passed the bill yesterday that would limit any emergency declared by the governor to 30 days. Action by the Legislature would be required to enact an extension. The measure would also prevent the governor from declaring a new state of emergency for the same disaster after the original state of emergency expired. Those opposing the bill say it would limit the state's ability to respond to other disasters in the future.
