Legislators Want To Lessen Penalty For Underage Drinking

(Bismarck, ND)  --  Some lawmakers want to lessen the penalty for underage drinking.  Currently, anyone under 21 who is caught consuming, purchasing, or possessing alcohol is subject to a Class B misdemeanor which includes jail time.  The new bipartisan effort would require only a fine unless the person was a repeat offender.  Critics of the proposed change say lessening charges would send the wrong message to minors.
