Sen. Cramer: Theodore Roosevelt National Park to receive maintenance through Great American Outdoors Act

U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) announced today the slumped section of roadway at the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park has been selected as a Deferred Maintenance Project by the U.S. Department of the Interior through funds authorized by the Great American Outdoors Act. Senator Cramer with Senator John Hoeven and Governor Doug Burgum took Interior Secretary David Bernhardt to this area of the park during his trip to North Dakota to show him the need for federal assistance in fixing the road.

“Secretary Bernhardt turned what he learned in North Dakota into concrete action by the federal government,” said Senator Cramer. “I am thankful for his work and his attentiveness to the needs of our state. This announcement is precisely why we passed the Great American Outdoors Act: to ensure visitors have the best experience possible when they visit North Dakota’s national parks and public lands.”

The Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA), which Senator Cramer cosponsored in March, is a comprehensive federal lands package Congress passed this year. It contained the Restore Our Parks Act, which addresses the maintenance backlog across the National Parks Service, including at Theodore Roosevelt National Park in Medora. President Trump signed the legislation into law this summer.

In addition to park maintenance, GAOA provides relief for the maintenance backlog at other federal agencies like the Forest Service, which recently announced four deferred maintenance projects in the Dakota Prairie Grasslands to update campgrounds, fix roads, and recondition the grasslands.
