Sen. Hoeven issues statement on Israel, Sudan normalizing dimplomatic relations

Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement after President Trump announced that Sudan will begin the process of normalizing diplomatic relations with Israel. This comes as part of the administration’s broader effort to support stability for Sudan’s transitional government, integrate it into the international community and ensure it is working to combat terrorism in the region.

Sudan is the third nation to officially recognize the State of Israel this year. Last month, Hoeven joined the signing ceremony for the Abraham Accords, peace agreements the Trump administration helped broker between Israel, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain.

“The administration continues to make important gains in securing our nation and a critical ally, Israel, against the threat of Iran and the extremist groups they support,” said Hoeven. “This move continues the process of transforming the Middle East, and we encourage other nations to join UAE, Bahrain and Sudan in building a brighter future for their countries and the region.”
